About Us:

The Shawnee Preservation Society is a not-for-profit, voluntary organization, incorporated under the laws of Pennsylvania and dedicated to preserving the quality of life in Shawnee-On-Delaware, Smithfield Township, and surrounding areas.

The members of SPS want to balance growth with an awareness of the long-term impact of residential and commercial development on water resources, flood control, schools, roads, taxes, private property, recreation, tourism, historic character, and the natural environment: the elements that constitute the quality of life in our community.

If you are concerned about the potential for water pollution, soil erosion, flooding, too much traffic, increased noise, overcrowded schools, or the loss of natural and historic features, then consider joining the SPS in our efforts to assure that the inevitable growth of our community will be responsible, sustainable, and fitted to the conditions and standards of the twenty-first century.

It is a fact that Monroe and Pike Counties are the fastest growing counties in Pennsylvania. Our water resources are being threatened by this population explosion. We recognize people want to settle in an area known for its natural beauty, excellent schools, recreational facilities and open space. We believe that the Shawnee Preservation Society can help to protect our irreplaceable natural resources through the education of our community associations, our legal municipalities, our students and our residents on what they can do to prevent the inadvertent degradation of these riches so that we can use and enjoy these resources for years to come.
